The ABS Initiative, ABioSA and BioInnovation Africa at COP16

The 16th Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), taking place in October 2024 in Cali, Colombia, is a pivotal platform for global discussions on biodiversity conservation and sustainable use. Alongside the official negotiations, further events play a key role by providing a space for stakeholders to share insights, foster partnerships, and explore innovative solutions.

At COP16, the ABS Capacity Development Initiative, ABioSA, and BioInnovation Africa will be hosting and participating in several events. These events will delve into important topics such as:

Green Zone Event with UEBT: Biodiversity-based businesses for the Global Biodiversity Framework

On 25th of October, the ABS Initiative, AbioSA and BioInnovation Africa will host, together with UEBT, a green zone event. It will discuss upscaling of biodiversity-based businesses and public-private partnership models, and how they contribute to the Global Biodiversity Framework.

Through these events, participants will explore strategies to enhance biodiversity conservation, sustainable business practices, and fair benefit-sharing models, contributing to the broader goals of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. The participation of the GIZ projects underscores their commitment to supporting biodiversity-based innovations and fostering sustainable, equitable partnerships between Africa and Europe.
