06/2019 – 12/2025
Why Côte d'Ivoire?
In March 2019, Côte d’Ivoire was selected as the ABS Capacity Development Initiative’s most recent partner country by the Steering Committee of the ABS Initiative. Key reasons for this choice include the strong political momentum to implement the Nagoya Protocol, the existence of a draft decree for the implementation, the importance of Côte d’Ivoire as a biodiversity hotspot in West Africa, the active research sector and the well-developed private sector.
Aim
The overall aim of the ABS Capacity Development Initiative’s work in Côte d'Ivoire is to support multi-stakeholder processes assisting in the in valorising genetic resources of the country. This includes the integration of representatives from Indigenous Peoples & local communities in respective value chains.
