Côte d'Ivoire

Partners and Target Groups

The ABS Initiative works closely with its main partner, the Ivorian national focal point for ABS at the Ministère de l'Environnement et du Développement Durable (Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development). The larger network includes institutions like the National Program for the Promotion of Traditional Medicine (PNPMT), the Swiss Center for Scientific Research in Côte d’Ivoire (CSRS), the Institut Pasteur of Côte d’Ivoire (IPCI), the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises in Ivory Coast (APME-CI), private sector companies like DJEKA Pharmaco and Universities like the Félix Houphouët-Boigny-University in Abidjan.

The target groups include all major ABS-relevant stakeholders such as local communities, researchers, private sector representatives and staff of the government authorities with links to ABS, who will be capacitated to introduce their respective needs and viewpoints in the elaboration of the legislative framework. Once the legislative and institutional frameworks have been set up, the ABS Initiative will offer its support to the same stakeholders when negotiating ABS agreements/partnerships and setting up the respective value chains.
